By the time you complete this course, you will be able to understand:

    • The cultural continuum and cultural competence in healthcare
    • Cultural competence from the patient's perspective and how to incorporate it into the healthcare setting

    Interactivity Guides

To enhance your learning experience and to help you reflect on the learnings in this course, please print or download the Interactivity Guide found at the beginning of the course activities and answer the questions as you complete each chapter in this course. Once you have completed the course, compare your answers to the Interactivity Guide Answer Key found at the end of the course activities.

    Pre-Reflective Questions

    Reflect on your personal experiences:

    • People who experience culturally safe healthcare are more likely to access care earlier, feel more at ease and empowered throughout the process of receiving care, share details about their health concerns and care preferences, return for follow-up visits and follow treatment plans recommended by healthcare providers. In your work place setting, what are some of the things you do to ensure cultural safety? Is this something you incorporate into your practice daily or only think about once in a while? As you go through the course, reflect on your own practice or workplace and its cultural continuum. If you have any unanswered questions after reviewing the course content, please look in the Additional Information folder or the Interactivity Guide Answer Key found at the end of the course. You can also contact us at iccu@ontariohealth.ca and we will do our best to answer your questions.
